Braunschweig Central Station (German: Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof) a railway station in the German city Braunschweig. It is about 1.5 km to the southeast the city center and was opened on October 1, 1960, replacing the old passenger station on the southern edge of the old town.

History

In the 1930s work had been carried out to reroute the main line so that the old terminal station could be replaced with a through station. Increasing traffic after World War II period made the need for a modern through main station more urgent. It was decided to build a new through station at the edge of the city at its current location next to the Viewegs Garten.
